Does Fasting Affect Libido?

This article looks at how fasting affects libido in both men and women. It explains how intermittent fasting increases testosterone levels in men, leading to an increase in libido and improved sexual performance.

Does Fasting Affect Libido?

It is understandable that during long-term fasting or calorie restriction, the body will allocate less energy to the sexual organs in both men and women, resulting in a decrease in libido for both genders. If this is a concern, it is best to stop or modify the current diet. Intermittent fasting has been found to increase testosterone levels in men, which can lead to an increase in libido and improved sexual performance. Erectile dysfunction is a condition where an erection cannot be maintained firm or long enough for satisfactory intercourse.

When looking at the causes of erectile dysfunction, it is clear that diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are at the top of the list. These conditions are common among many demographic groups, showing that a large portion of the population is vulnerable to erectile dysfunction. Men have reported that their libido can significantly increase during a fast. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that human growth hormone, which helps with healing, also increases testosterone levels, which is beneficial for men's health.

With the rise in testosterone levels, men's libido may gradually increase until it reaches a dramatic peak. Sexual fasting can cause changes in sexual responses and may even boost desire. Sexual fasting can also strengthen relationships between partners by allowing each partner to take a step back and become more aware of sex. In women, intermittent fasting can cause adrenal fatigue and hormonal changes that delay or stop menstruation.

This can lead to binge eating and a decrease in ovary size, which can reduce sexual desire. In men who experience low libido or no libido at all, this is usually linked to carbohydrate intake; some people who fasted noticed that when they returned to their previous carbohydrate diets their libido had returned. When I reintroduced carbohydrates into my diet, my weight and libido slowly increased until I was back up to 210 pounds and my libido was back to its original level. There are no official studies on this topic but there seems to be a general consensus that it will generally improve male libido and decrease female libido; I will explain why below.
